Lynn Girdler

Hi Don...

Lynn GirdlerI'm going to try to make the reunion. I'm waiting to hear from Michelle Michaels Hedley, Priscilla Clifford Simmons and Diane Marple Manson to see if they can make it, also. These are the only classmates that I've kept up with over the years. I was at the Class of '63 reunion at M.L. Club a couple of years ago and we all had the opportunity to get together then. My dearest friend, Judy Hoppens Sabia, invited me to go with her to celebrate her 40th. As many of you know, she passed away a little over a year ago. I still have a hole in my heart. She and I used to vacation with the Hedley's at Martha's Vineyard each summer in past few years.

I moved from the Dallas, Texas, area about 10 years ago to take a job with a hospital in East Texas as director of marketing and business development. It's a great position and I enjoy the people I work with. It's a bit remote and unsophisticated, but the warmth and generosity of good country people make up for other things I miss. We're situated midway between Dallas and Houston so I can get an urban 'fix' when I need it. More than likely, I will spend downtime playing with my two Golden Retrievers in my back yard or tending to my yard. I'm also on too many boards and committees, which keeps me busy.

I moved my mother and brother, Tom, from Florida last year to a house next door. My mother is 85 so I'm learning to be a responsible caregiver. Many of you may be in this same situation. There were never any lessons offered for this, and it can be very rewarding and very challenging. I'm taking her back to Florida next week to visit my daughter, Michele, and her family, and catch up with the friends still left that she moved away from.

Michele is an environmental attorney (and city attorney) with three kids and a husband in Florida. My daughter, Paige, is a school administrator and lives in Nebraska with her husband and daughter. They are both taking their families to Wisconsin to see their (step) brother, Cam Scribner, get married. This is the first of Jay's second family to walk down the isle. Happily, we've all stayed close these years and I regret that I have a commitment and can't make the wedding, also. Cam and his lady live in Dallas so I've had several occasions to get together with them. Cam teaches at the private school where Paige worked before she relocated to Nebraska.

I look forward to hearing about my classmates! I would welcome a call or visit from anyone who finds themselves in Northeast Texas. Thanks to those of you who are putting this all together.(Reluctantly, I'll attach a picture.)
