Dear Classmates
Since graduating from Rhode Island College in 1970, I've been happily married and living in Scituate, Rhode Island. My husband, Doug, and I will celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary this month. We have two lovely daughters. Mandy, 29, is a talented actress and singer living in Chicago. Our younger daughter Allison, 22, graduated from Hampshire College last spring and is also in the arts. Alli works for a film distribution company in Los Angeles. Although we miss having our children close by, we have two great vacation destinations.
I've been retired for 7 years from a 28 year teaching career in inner city Providence. I worked with a very diverse population of children from kindergarten through sixth grade and found it to be both challenging and rewarding.
Now, I spend as much time as possible "playing" in my perennial gardens. Gardening is my absolute passion. I'm very involved in my garden club activities (where I have some competence) and I'm taking up golf (where I don't).
My younger sister, Olivia, still lives in New Jersey and my older sister, Berill, lives in Indiana. Both have families of their own and we remain close.
After enjoying good health all my life, I went through a recent rough patch. I was diagnosed with breast cancer three years ago. I'm grateful to be able to call myself a survivor and do what I can to support others facing breast cancer.
Life has been good to us!
Wising you all well,
Lois (McGregor) Hartley
