Long Bio...

Dick WeeksSeptember 1965 to June 1969

Upon Graduation from high school I spent four years in Chicago going to the Art Institute of Chicago managing to obtain a BA degree in Industrial Design, while in Chicago I worked many odd jobs to pay for room, board, tuition and food. The highlight of the stay in Chicago was viewing the Grant park demonstrations during the Democratic convention, especially breathing the tear gas when a canister was lobed into the lobby of the Pick Congress Hotel where I was working after classes as a cook and counter attendant.

June 1969 to July 1973

Upon returning to New Jersey in the summer of 1969 I like a lot of people my age received my draft notice and would only have that summer to enjoy myself. I got a job as a technical illustrator for a kitchen supply fabricator, my paycheck went for gas in my 65 Mustang, and my bar tab at the Osprey Bar in Manasquan NJ. This is where divine intervention stepped in; I met and fell in love with my future wife Barbara Jacobi from Westfield who was a teacher in Elizabeth and who rescued me from my alcoholic ways. That next summer I had to finally report to Fort Dix for my makeover to become a lean mean fighting machine, Vietnam here I come.

October 1st 1970

After basic training at Fort Dix Barbara and I were married in Westfield NJ. We took a short honeymoon on a Privates salary in Mystic CT. Fortunately the Army sent me to Fort Monmouth for 9 Months of Electronics School while Barbara continued to teach in Elizabeth NJ.

Upon completion of my training at Fort Monmouth and because I graduated No. 2 in my class [don’t be shocked] which was easy to do since I was one of only 2 college graduates among 30 some 18 year olds who had no time to study since that would interfere with drinking and chasing the local women, after all I was a married man, anyway the reward for graduating no. 2 was an all expense trip to Munich Germany for the remainder of my military tour. I was without a doubt extremely lucky, a lot of my Fort Monmouth classmates went to Vietnam and some did not make it back. While in Munich my new child bride and I got to travel to 15 different countries and see the Olympics along with the tragedy of the Israeli athletes being killed [nothing changes] during my 18 months there.

July 1973 to November 1973

After my discharge from the Army in July of 73’ I could not find a job with my design background, I collected unemployment during the remainder of the summer, got a good tan, did some body surfing, went on interviews and finally in the early fall took a job as an assistant manager with Woolworth’s. [Not a good idea] Retail sucks, I was working 80 hours a week in Ellenville NY, I got every other Monday off, the highlight of my week was watching a new show called “Monday Night Football” anyway most of my time was spent filling in for employees that did not show up for work and signing complaints against shop lifters who were robbing the store blind, The store manager did not want to deal with these people, so that fell to me. I got to visit the local police department just about everyday filling out paperwork. Finally one of the shop lifters that I put in jail [fourth offense] did his time [one month] and came to visit me at the store with a 8” blade, after fending him off and the police finally coming to my aid I decided to renew my job search again, this time staying more focused on matching my education with a better career path.

November 1973 to June 1986

After numerous interviews I landed a job that was more suitable to my education. On November 1st 1973 I started with Mosler a security company. My position was draftsman and electronic security sales support for 20 nationwide salespeople. This job was like heaven I went from working 80 hours per week to 40 hours per week and making more money. After about year supporting salesmen my boss realized that I was doing most of the sales for these people so he promoted me to a technical sales position and as a result I have been in security systems sales for the past 32 years.

This time period was highlighted by the birth of my two queens [daughters] First Victoria on July 5th 1979 and them Elizabeth on October 1st 1982. Our daughter’s have been a great joy to our lives and Barb and I have been extremely lucky to have two wonderful children now adults.

June 1986 to March of 1994

After 13 years with Mosler, I took a position with Wells Fargo as a regional Systems Sales specialist in Princeton, NJ while there I enjoyed training new sales people as well as covering system sales for the Mid Atlantic region.

March 1994 to May 1999

After 8 years with Wells Fargo I accepted a position with Diebold in Plainsboro, NJ as a major account manager for electronic security.

May 1999 to July 28th 2005

May 1999
After 5 years with Diebold I accepted a partnership position with Eastec Inc. as EVP of Sales.

May 2000
Our daughter Victoria graduates from University of Delaware to become a Spanish teacher in Tom River, NJ.

May 2005
Our daughter Elizabeth graduates from Monmouth University to become an elementary teacher. [pending]

July 29th 2005
Our daughter Victoria is getting married in Spring Lake to David Hyatt a fellow teacher. So if you have read all this and wonder why I could not make the reunion the above explains why. However if you see me at the reunion then the wedding went off as planned and all the bills got paid.
