Welcome to the Class of 1965.

One hundred and thirty five seniors graduated from Mountain Lakes High School in June of 1965. We were the largest class to graduate since the founding of the high school in 1936. Many of us had lived in Mountain Lakes since birth, and our friendships go back to childhood. 2005 was our 40th High School reunion but also the 52nd reunion of the Kindergarten class of 1953.

The National Honor Society in 1965 had 20 members, the largest in the chapter’s history. Nearly all of us went off to college. In our senior year the seven men’s varsity sports teams compiled an 80% winning record. Our swimming and tennis teams repeated as State Champions. Incredible now to think that there were no women’s varsity sports in the years before Title IX became the law of the land in 1972. However, the GAA boasted 100% participation and the girls did field both a basketball and field hockey team. In 1965 the Blue Team won the annual challenge against the Orange Team. Our classmates participated in over 20 clubs and organizations as well as Chorus, Band, Orchestra, Cheerleading and Twirling.

There were 57 girls, 78 boys and three sets of twins in our class. Sadly, Clark Matson and Sue Metelski died before graduation. Today there are 123 known survivors in 33 states, Denmark and Australia.

In July 2005 the Class held its 40th reunion at the Mountain Lakes Club. Forty-five classmates and guests enjoyed a picture-perfect weekend.
